Civil Transmission Design Engineer

Position Summary:  
Support and assist the Transmission Design Engineering section.  Responsible for the analysis and detailed design  of high voltage transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 345kV. May give direction to subordinate Engineers,  Drafters, clerical personnel, Engineering Technicians and Engineering Assistants and assume such authority as may be delegated.  Perform other duties as required.  
 

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

Design 

  • Prepare and/or review PLS-CADD modeling, structure and foundation designs, clearance checks, plan and profile development, assembly drawings, framing drawings, Right-of- way drawings, material specifications and procurement, manufacture shop drawings and design calculations, conductor thermal ratings, constructability evaluations, permitting, and project schedules. 
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of design codes including NESC, ACI and RUS.
  • Prepare and maintain company transmission line engineering and design standards.
  • Troubleshoot and provide solutions to transmission line related problems.

Support 

  • Provide transmission design and application knowledge to other company departments.
  • Attend contractor bid and construction meetings to assist in ensuring that work activities are performed in accordance with plans, specifications and schedule. 
  • Provide field support during construction.
  • Manage and support transmission engineering consultants in cases where design

services are outsourced. 

 

Planning and Analysis 

  • Become multi-disciplined with knowledge of existing and future technologies.
  • Attend technical conferences, meetings or perform other requirements to maintain professional engineering continuing education requirements (Project Engineer). 
  • Assist in project management by performing detailed engineering and economic studies, estimating labor, materials and construction costs of projects.
  • Prepare conceptual design options including economic conductor and pole analysis.

Education and Experience Requirements:  
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
