The Trinity University College Advising Corps (TUCAC), a near-peer college advising program that recruits, hires, and trains college graduates to serve as advisers in selected partner high schools that have low college-going rates. All adviser positions are full time Americorps positions.

Job Description: The College Adviser will serve at one of our partner high schools working alongside high school and district staff, the adviser will assist students with college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship applications to help student realize their dream of attending college.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one admissions and financial aid advice to any student or family seeking assistance
  • Organize group events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges and universities
  • Establish productive working relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in the assigned high school
  • Assist in the efforts of other advisers within the service area
  • Assist in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program
  • Maintain expertise in admissions and financial-aid advising (extensive training will be provided)
  • Weekend and evening commitments will be expected

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University. Preferably earned in December 2022, May 2023, December 2023, or May 2024.

Appointment Details

This is an 11-month appointment with a start date of August 5th, 2024 to end in June 30th 2025. Upon successful completion of 11 months of service and the required 1700 hours of service, the adviser may be eligible for an Education Award of $7,395 to use towards federal undergraduate student loans and/or a graduate education. The position is contingent upon continuous grant funding.
