The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Quality has an opening for an Environmental Scientist to join a dynamic team environment in the Ocean Desalination Unit. We are seeking a talented scientist with a passion for marine life protection and strong analytical abilities to assist the team in protecting water quality consistent with the State Water Board’s direction and mission.
The position is eligible for some telework with periodic travel and two in-office days per week. The headquarters location is located at 1001 I Street, 15th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations, other public transportation, restaurants and more. The geographical location of the work is located throughout the state, but primarily in coastal counties in Southern California.
Duties:
The incumbent will act in a lead capacity to develop proposed amendments to the Water Quality Control Plan for Ocean Waters of California (Ocean Plan) desalination requirements and assist the regional water boards in implementing the requirements when permitting seawater desalination facilities. The incumbent will conduct work related to ocean desalination facilities, implementation of the Governor’s Water Supply Strategy, and promoting equitable access to underutilized water supplies.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
