Reliability Engineer

MAIN FUNCTION

  • Maintain the knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance technologies
  • Execute excellent troubleshooting skills for mechanical equipment
  • Consult in the development of projects for improvements and expansions
  • Support equipment repairs

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishing and driving reliability engineering principles and best work practices
  • Establishing equipment performance expectations and measuring overall equipment performance
  • Apply appropriate reliability tools to drive improvements, optimize costs and improve asset effectiveness. Tools may include RCFA, Bad Actor Program, FMEA, RCM, etc.
  • Establish and Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and metrics for proactive identification and resolution of reliability issues
  • Developing and Optimizing preventative maintenance tasks and activities, identifying gaps and developing a corrective actions plan, driving implementation and evaluating improvement performance
  • Coordinating, directing and overseeing major overhauls as well as quality/precision repairs to critical rotating equipment
  • Develop a multi-year reliability improvement plan; lead execution of the plan and monitor progress
  • Leading reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) teams to identify problem areas, repeat failures, unsafe/poor performers and potential improvement areas; driving corrective actions and evaluating improvement results, clearly and effectively communicating to key stakeholders through process
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and conduct root cause failure analysis investigations on failed equipment, develop action plan to eliminate repeat failures, and implement corrective actions
  • Working with production to identify key areas for reliability improvements, develop action plan.
  • Provide technical support to mechanical technicians on mechanical repairs, troubleshooting problems, and equipment installation issues
  • Provide technical support on the selection of mechanical equipment based on reliability improvements and industry best practices
  • Actively support and assure compliance to all ESH policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance, at least 2-3 of those years implementing reliability centered maintenance principles preferred
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred but not required
  • Written and verbal communication and a disciplined approach to standards and procedures are required to facilitate and implement improvements.
  • Excellent computer skills to include database software, spreadsheets, word processing and CMMS software
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both with technical core teams, supervisors, and subject matter experts, as well as department superintendents, and plant general managers.
  • Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) certificate, defined by Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professional– preferred but not required
  • Common knowledge of Windows driven programs
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Reliability hardware/software – Wiebul Analysis, RCM++, Machinery Health Analysis hardware/ software, NDE inspection technologies, etc. recommended but not required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of reliability centered maintenance practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of sound engineering practices and principles
  • Knowledge and understanding of precision maintenance, quality repairs principles, lubrication storage, handling, & best practices
  • Overhaul and repair practices on turbines, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, pumps, gas and mechanical seals, air compressors, governors, gearboxes and reducers, conveyors, electrical motors etc.
  • Knowledge of fixed assets, i.e. tanks, vessels, exchangers, piping, etc.
  • Design and operation of rotating equipment, ability to read and interpret pump curves, engineering drawing, blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to read and interpret P&ID, EFD, and process-related documents, diagrams, schematics
  • Knowledge and understanding of predictive technologies, such as vibration analysis, tribology/oil analysis, infrared thermography, non-destructive testing, and ultrasonics Knowledge and understanding of change management principles and tools
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to solving equipment problems
  • Ability to listen and understand information and ideas and to express thought and ideas clearly and concisely through oral and written communication
  • Knowledge and use of a CMMS as an effective maintenance management tool for pulling equipment information, cost tracking, and maintenance history
