Forester | Ashland County, WI
The Ashland County Forestry and Recreation Department is hiring a Forester. This position is located in the Forestry Office in Butternut. The position is 40 hours per week. Bachelor of Science degree or an Associate’s degree from an accredited school is required. Familiarity with silviculture, timber sale establishment and the ability to scale forest products is required. Computer knowledge, good organizational and office skills, phone skills, ability to work alone in all weather conditions and the ability to work with members of the public is beneficial.
While working with the Assistant Administrator, typical duties will include timber stand reconnaissance, boundary line establishment, timber sale establishment, trail mowing, log scaling and final sale inspections. This position will be involved in both the timber program as well as recreational operations. This position will allow you to practice the art of forestry while providing “low key” recreational opportunities to the public.
Candidates must have a valid WI Driver’s license, herbicide applicators license or the ability to acquire, have the ability to move around and work in the woods, be able to operate recreational vehicles, ability to operate light equipment, be able to stand for extended periods of time and routinely lift 50 pounds or more.
