Mechanical Design Engineer

 

Position: Mechanical Engineer

 

Company: August Winter & Sons, one of the leading HVAC & Industrial mechanical contractors in Northeast Wisconsin has a permanent position available for a Mechanical Design Engineer. We service clients in a variety of industries including: Commercial, Healthcare, and Industrial applications that involve heating, cooling, process, structural and plumbing systems. August Winter & Sons offers a competitive compensation package and has excellent employee retention.

Responsibilities:

·        The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for interpreting the clients' needs and designing systems to fulfill those needs while meeting codes and industry best practices as well as making sure that it is completed within the given deadline

·        System design includes preparing mechanical engineering design calculations and plans to code. Performing engineering analysis of various options, including load calculations, equipment sizing, and overall system layouts. Providing detailed engineering reports including: design narratives, building conditions, engineering analysis of options, and recommendations

·        Types of systems and components involved in design include: low & high pressure steam systems, chilled water systems, dx cooling systems, hot water heating water systems, ducted air/VAV systems, industrial piping systems, industrial ventilation systems, domestic water, storm, and waste & vent systems

·        Write & edit mechanical specifications, review submittals & shop drawings, and select equipment

·        Develop preliminary designs and cost competitive solutions with project managers for budgeting and bid purposes

·        Completion of final design solution after award of contract to meet client needs

·        Coordinates and oversees the design team through all phases of the design from concept through construction documents

Requirements: (Experience / Education / General)

  • BS - Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Strong technical background with AutoCAD and/or Revit

·        Strong mathematics, problem solving, and critical thinking skills

·        Excellent communication skills essential for working with design teams and non-technical clients

·        Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment

·        Physical abilities include climbing, crawling, and exterior work during site visits to view existing systems

  • Preferred minimum 3 years of experience in designing HVAC, industrial, or plumbing systems

·        Knowledge of HVAC design principles and/or plumbing design preferred

·        Knowledge of building codes (HVAC, boilers, chillers & plumbing) preferred

·        Computer experience with load calculation software, energy modeling software, and manufacturer selection software preferred

·        EIT preferred, & pursuit of Professional Engineering (PE) certification
