
Mental Health Practitioner, Neurofeedback Clinician
The position of Mental Health Practitioner, Neurofeedback Clinician is a Full-Time position held by a licensed (or associate licensed) mental health provider (social worker, marriage and family therapist, professional counselor) who is (ultimately) BCIA certified in neurofeedback (BCN). The Neurofeedback Clinician’s role is to provide clinical direction and supervision of neurofeedback treatment at The Neurovation Center (TNC). The position will be responsible to assess patient symptoms and treatment needs, create treatment plans and review patient progress, and manage overall treatment using an integrated neurofeedback / psychotherapy modality. Key areas of expertise for this position are Assessment, Diagnosis and Review skills; Ability to work with computers and technology; Excellent people skills; and Therapeutic Counseling. The position reports to the Owner, Jeff Schutz, and works closely alongside the Clinical Director of Neurofeedback Services.
Training: A mental health license (or associate licensure) in CT State is a necessary pre-requisite for this position, along with prior experience in Assessment, Diagnosis, Treatment Planning and Case Management. Prior experience with neurofeedback is preferred but not necessary. Applicants with no prior experience must have familiarity with neurofeedback processes, and the nature of neurofeedback treatment should be clear. A BCN is not required, but acquisition of neurofeedback certification is required within 6-9 months of the date of hire. Training is both on-site and via BCIA-certified courses. Non-BCN applicants will be considered NFB Clinician Trainees until certification is completed, functioning with the supervision of a BCN. The position is also required to engage in professional development of neurofeedback skills and knowledge base on a regular basis, consistent with the nature of rapid change and expansion occurring in the field.
Details: The Neurofeedback Clinician functions as a critical part of TNC’s mental health treatment Team. In addition to working effectively with the Team, this person is hired and must be competent to:
- Conduct Assessments, Diagnostic Interviews and Progress Reviews that result in symptom differentiation and the formulation and/or adaptation of personalized Treatment Plans.
- Provide effective case management for assigned patients’ overall treatment planning.
- In consultation with other Clinicians, make recommendations on treatment modalities and/or referrals.
- Provide psychotherapeutic treatment sessions as part of an overarching treatment plan and consistent with personal modality expertise, as determined by the Clinical Team.
- Complete and maintain all EHRs, files, records in a timely and accurate manner, consistent with TNC processes and standards.
- Develop and maintain technical neurofeedback training skills, including patient preparation, signal acquisition, protocol monitoring, file record-keeping and clean-up regimens. The NFB Clinician must be able to run NFB training and QEEG acquisition sessions proficiently, as needed, at the level of a Technician.
- Develop and maintain a high degree of expertise in the use of all TNC NFB acquisition, training and assessment software, in particular Brainmaster and Neuroguide products.
- Supervise NFB treatments and Tech activities while working as the NFB Clinician on the NFB Floor; Provide clinician oversight and supervision for the running of the NFB Floor and direct staffing resources as needed to provide NFB services
- Maintain a regular schedule that upholds Performance Baselines as per TNC’s written policy for salaried therapist positions
- Read, evaluate, and interpret QEEG reports. Consult with TNC’s QEEG analysts and other senior NFB Clinicians, review data with patients, and present treatment recommendations.
- Be available, as necessary, to provide administrative support for TNC file maintenance, promotional, phone call, and scheduling needs.
- Engage in efforts to maintain TNC’s facility at a high level of cleanliness. Clinicians should engage in or delegate cleaning tasks, both those considered routine (eg, dusting, vacuuming, emptying waste baskets) and “in the moment” (eg, food spills from a patient; backed up toilet; some other “accident” of messiness).
Schedule: Schedule is flexible but must provide adequate consistency to ensure quality of care for counseling patients and effective coverage for neurofeedback services. The majority of hours are on-site at the TNC facility with the option to work from home via telehealth up to 25% of employment hours.
Remuneration: This position is salaried. Associate licensure starting range is from $60,000 to $72,000 per year; Full licensure starting range is $72,000 to $80,000 per year. 2 weeks paid time off plus Holidays; matching IRA option; performance bonuses. Applicants without neurofeedback certification will be provided full certification training and supervision to achieve Board Certified Neurofeedback Clinician (BCN) status within 1 year of employment.
