High-Performance Heater Design Engineer

Job Title: High-Performance Heater Design Engineer

Location: Cleveland
Department: New Product Development
Reports To: Engineering Manager / Product Development Lead

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Heater Design Engineer to design, develop, and optimize high-performance heaters used in the semiconductor and plating industries. The ideal candidate will have expertise in creating precise heating systems with integrated control mechanisms that can maintain temperatures to the tenth of a degree. Given the media (water, solvents, chemicals) flowing through these systems, safety and regulatory compliance are critical, and the engineer will be expected to work closely with certification bodies to obtain necessary safety certifications. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and the use of appropriate design software to develop robust, high-performance products.

Key Responsibilities:

Heater Design & Development: Design and prototype high-performance heaters specifically suited for applications in the semiconductor and plating industries. Focus on achieving highly accurate temperature control, ensuring systems maintain temperatures to within tenths of a degree.

Control System Integration: Develop and integrate advanced control systems for temperature regulation. Ensure that the control systems are precise, reliable, and capable of managing the dynamic characteristics of the media (water, solvents, chemicals) flowing through the system.

Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials that can withstand the corrosive and high-temperature conditions typical in semiconductor and plating processes.

Safety & Compliance: Prioritize safety in the design process. Work closely with safety and regulatory bodies to ensure that heaters comply with industry standards and certifications (e.g., UL, CE, ISO, etc.). Complete and maintain the necessary documentation for certification.

Prototyping & Testing: Lead the prototyping and testing phases, ensuring designs are functional, reliable, and safe for use. Conduct experiments and performance testing to validate design specifications and adjust for optimal performance.

Collaboration: Work in close collaboration with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers. Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners to align on technical specifications and project milestones.

Troubleshooting & Support: Provide technical support for any heater-related issues during manufacturing, installation, and post-installation phases. Address any operational challenges that arise during the heater's lifecycle.

Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of designs, test results, certification processes, and other technical records. Provide regular reports to stakeholders on project progress, timelines, and issues.

Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest advancements in heater technology, control systems, and industry trends. Implement improvements to existing designs based on feedback, testing, and new technologies.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in heater design, thermal systems, or related fields, preferably in the semiconductor or plating industry.
  • Proven track record of developing high-performance heating systems with precise temperature control.
  • Experience working with control systems and temperature regulation mechanisms (e.g., PID controllers, thermocouples, RTDs).
  • Experience in working with various media such as water, chemicals, solvents, and understanding their interaction with heating systems.

Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar 3D modeling software).
  • Proficient in thermal analysis, fluid dynamics, and material science.
  • Experience with control systems and automation (PLC, SCADA systems, etc.).
  • In-depth understanding of safety standards and certification requirements (e.g., UL, CE, ISO).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to prototype, test, and optimize designs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Certification or training in safety, quality assurance, or relevant industry standards.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in semiconductor manufacturing or electroplating applications is highly desirable.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with thermal simulation software (ANSYS, COMSOL, etc.) or other specialized tools.

Personal Attributes:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse groups.
  • Proactive mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Work Environment:

  • This role may require occasional travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, or certification bodies.
  • The engineer will be expected to work in both office and lab/shop environments, involving hands-on activities for prototyping and testing.

Compensation:

Competitive salary based on experience, with comprehensive benefits including [list benefits such as health insurance, 401K retirement plans, etc.].
