Position Overview:
The Penn Woods Classical Academy (PWCA) teachers are at the core of our school. They provide instruction and supervision of our students and are fundamental to our mission; Train the Mind, Improve the Heart and Nurture the Spirit. Teachers are required to have post-secondary training for teaching as well as have extensive content knowledge in their teaching area. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to upholding the values and mission of the school.

Responsibilities
Personal Qualifications for Employment:
All teachers at the PWCA shall be Christians.
All teachers shall be active members of a church.
All teachers must sign the PWCA covenant prior to hiring.
Faculty Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Teachers will attend all faculty meetings, or other meetings as directed, and perform other duties that may be assigned by the Head of School/Principal. For example, attending student functions, i.e., athletic events, musicals, drama, etc.
2. The length of the school day shall be fixed by the school, as well as the hours of teaching and duties to be performed. The teacher agrees that, in addition to the regular school work to be performed, he will carry on a program of contacts with the parents of the students, grading, professional development, and any projects necessary to improve their skills.
3. The teacher's duties will involve not only the responsibilities ordinarily incumbent, but also those responsibilities related to the special spiritual ministry to which he or she is called - the training of the child in Christian faith and scripture. In a very real sense, therefore, it is the expectation of the board that the teacher will strive at all times to understand, appreciate, love and serve the pupils entrusted to him or her for instruction and that he (she) will, to the best of his (her) ability, provide for their fullest intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual development.
4. The teacher agrees to abide by the regulations set forth in the Faculty-Staff Handbook and any additions made during the year and to cooperate in every way with the school authorities.
5. The teacher agrees to accept and adhere to, without reservation the school’s mission.
6. Attendance at meetings, conferences, meetings with parents, counseling sessions with students, and preparation time are normal duties and may require additional time.
7. Teachers are encouraged to become involved in civic and community affairs that do not interfere with their employment responsibilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities of all Teachers:
1. Continuous Supervision: At no time are students to be left unattended in a classroom or on the playground.
2. Recess/Playground Duty: Teachers or other staff will be required to fulfill playground duty as assigned. Teachers are to enforce playground rules, ensure safe behavior on the playground.
3. Field Trips: The teacher is to assure that field trips are well supervised. They should ask parents to come as chaperons when an activity demands more supervisory personnel than we have school personnel attending. If students return to school after a field trip and the regular after-school supervisory staff has left, the teacher(s) are responsible to stay with students until the last student has been picked up.
4. Extra-Curricular Activities: Teachers or other staff supervising students at extra-curricular activities are responsible to ensure that students' behavior is respectful, safe, and represents PWCA in a virtuous manner. After the activity is over, the teacher(s) or staff member(s) responsible are to stay with the students until the last student is picked up.
5. Time Supervision Begins: Unless otherwise specified by a principal, teachers or supervisory staff are to come fifteen minutes before a program or activity begins to supervise students arriving for or being transported to an event.
Biblical Integration:
All teachers are expected to integrate biblical principles with their teaching in language arts, science, history, social studies, math, art, music, physical education and any other subject taught at PWCA. All subjects are to be taught in a manner consistent with Scripture. However, we do not expect that every lesson will have biblical principles or proof texts to support teaching because the Bible was not written as a comprehensive school subject text.
Qualifications
- Teachers shall have a minimum of a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university. Classical education background is preferred but not mandatory. If no classical education, must be open to professional development.
- Ideal candidates should have experience designing and implementing curriculum, working with diverse students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery, engaging children and adolescents in meaningful instruction, and maintaining a nurturing classroom environment. Responsibilities will include active teaching and community responsibilities. Candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills, be reflective, and be able to develop collaborative relationships with students, parents, faculty, and the classical community.
- Broad experience is advantageous, as partnering across disciplines and grade levels is valued at our school

- Have an life-long learning attitude and willingness to grow professionally
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficient computer skills; experience preferred for Google Workspace (Education Suite)
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with classical Christian education principles and values is desirable.
- Committed to the welfare of children; have a passion for enhancing the Christ-centered joyful outlook focus; and duty to integrity in personnel conduct, for transparency in operations, and advocate that parents are the primary educators of their own children.
- Clearances as required by the PA Department of Education for education personnel.
- Completed our commitment to completing mandated reporter training.
- Acknowledge, agree to, and uphold the Nicene Creed as part of personal conduct policy and model virtuous behavior for students.
