Engineer I, Professional
The purpose of this position is to perform entry-level engineering review and design work on Capital Projects and Water system planning, development, design, and construction. Checks projects during construction to ensure compliance with schedules, plans, and specifications. Attends design meetings as well as reviews plans and specifications. The employee will be responsible for Maintenance/Supply Contracts which includes preparing specifications, attending pre-bid conferences, preparing addenda, reviewing bids, issuing bid award recommendations. Assimilates required bid documents. Prepares Council resolutions for bid awards and acceptance of completed contracts. Monitors consulting engineers and contractors during project construction. Checks completed projects and compiles reports on quantities of materials used, workmanship, cost factors, and compliance with plans and specifications. Prepares and/or reviews technical plans and specifications, permit applications, engineering reports, progress reports, and inspection reports. Draws sketches of proposed construction work. Checks job plans and specifications for completeness, inaccuracies, and needed additions; makes necessary corrections, and prepared reports on the revisions. May be required to drive to various locations throughout the parish to perform job duties. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
