Outpatient Therapist

OUTPATIENT THERAPIST

 

Recovery Technology therapists assist a wide variety of individuals with understanding their mental health needs, improving their ability to successfully cope with symptoms and helping them develop the ability to independently navigate life stressors. 

 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Assessment and diagnosis utilizing DSM 5 criteria.
  • Development of person-centered treatment plans based on client needs.
  • Building therapeutic rapport with clients, encouraging them share their feelings, discuss  what is happening in their lives and develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
  • Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.
  • Counsel clients, individually and group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life and making changes.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of therapy and client’s progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
  • Refer clients or their family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
  • Involve client family members as needed to assist them in understanding and supporting their loved ones.
  • Collaborate with other professionals who serve your clients as needed.

 

Knowledge, skills, abilities and  personal characteristics

  • Ability and desire to work with people from various backgrounds providing basic human needs with compassion and a dignified environment.
  • Experiences in crisis intervention principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions.
  • Familiarity with DSM 5 diagnoses.
  • Ability to present ideas effectively, in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict between dissenting parties.
  • Strong time management.
  • Be honest and trustworthy.
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling or psychology.
  • Current Michigan license (limited license or full) and be in good standing with their credentialing board.
  • Must uphold the Code of Ethics of their professional licensing entity.
  • Must complete the minimum hours of continuing education to maintain professional license.
