
High School STEM Teacher
Job Title: High School Stem Teacher (Grades 9 - 12)
Reports To: Building Administration
Employee Status: Full Time, Exempt, Certified Teacher Salary Schedule
JOB SUMMARY: The High School STEM Teacher will lead students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, using approved curricula, materials, and directives of the district. While creating projects involving Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. The Engineering classes that Oak Grove R-VI would like to offer is, Principles of Engineering and Introduction to Engineering Design. Certified staff of Oak Grove R- VI School District have the opportunity to participate in Career Ladder. Staff with two years of experience teaching in a Missouri Public School may earn $1,500 - $5,000 for approved work outside of the school day.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
- Establish unit objectives that integrate the Missouri Learning Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.
- Create a learning environment based on the 4 C’s- communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
- Facilitate “hands-on” experiments and projects that allow students to learn by doing and exploring.
- Implement curriculum
- Collaborate with teachers to plan units of study.
- Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement.
- Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
- Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
- Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
- Assume responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Demonstrate gains in student performance.
- Participate in training and professional development
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
- Utilizes smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.
- Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Teachers will teach with a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math approach using the most up to date research based methos.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Support district/school decisions in a positive manner with the public, other staff, etc.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
- Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, state data, state standards, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms, and governmental regulations and guidance.
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Adheres to good safety practices.
- Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:
- Knowledge of High School curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Excellent computer skills
- Knowledge of basic computer fundamentals and software like word processing, spreadsheets and database management systems
- Excellent presentation and speaking skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Certification:
Must hold, be eligible for, maintain a Valid Teaching Certificate through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the area of application for all grade levels notated above.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Prior experience teaching STEM project-based classes is preferred.
Knowledge and/or background in engineering.
Understanding of the following software is preferred; CODE (code.org)
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 10 pounds or more at times.
