Mechanical Engineer/Designer for Building Design
The mechanical engineer/designer is capable and experienced in mechanical systems for commercial building systems.
They have experience designing HVAC systems for design, bid, permit, and construction. Position requires knowledge of building mechanical engineering systems from conceptual development, final design, and owner acceptance. Position works closely with senior engineering leader, architects, clients, and other engineering disciplines in a dynamic multidisciplinary, full-service A/E firm.
The responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer/Designer include:
- Work with engineers and project managers to meet KZF goals and objectives
- Coordinate with project managers regarding schedule and deliverables for assigned projects
- Seek advice and counsel from senior engineers as needed
- Interface with all disciplines assigned to the project to coordinate the Mechanical work
- Research systems and select appropriate items for incorporation into the building design
- Prepare design documents as assigned
- Prepare documents in conformance with KZF standards and quality control requirements
- Assist in the preparation of construction document specifications, and coordinate the work with other project specifications
- Remain current with new products and tools to assist you in better meeting our client’s needs
- Conduct field investigations as assigned to understand project requirements
- Assist with quality assurance reviews
- Research and prepare building code analysis for Mechanical Engineering work
- Maintain technical accuracy, constructability, code conformance, and appropriate level of detail for project designs
- Attend and participate in project team meetings
- Maintain a technical expertise in your profession and area of work
This is a full-time position with an expectation of being in the downtown Cincinnati office multiple days a week, subject to change according to company policy. KZF offers flexibility in setting hours to balance work and personal life.
Required
- Experience producing mechanical design documents for permit/construction
- Experience with design and office related computer software and operating systems
- Experience working in the design/construction industry with architects, engineers, and contractors
- Experience using design/analysis software and Excel for load calculations and sizing
- Comfortable with a broad range of project types
- Familiarity and experience working with building codes
- Proactive and assertive in problem solving
- Strong written and oral communications skills; fluent in English (speaking, reading and writing)
Preferred
- Either a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited US college, OR 5 years of experience in the trade in a design role
- LEED AP accreditation

- AutoCAD proficient
- Carrier HAP familiarity
- MicroStation / MicroStation 3D familiarity
