Media & Outreach Intern/Part-Time Assistant

 

The Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) is seeking to fill the position of Media & Outreach Intern/Part-Time Assistant. This position assists with public outreach and manages WAMPO’s online presence, including the website and social media accounts. This position provides “hands-on” experiences and the opportunity to develop work samples. The role requires an adaptable self-starter who can work well on a team as well as independently, with minimal supervision. This position will assist in all aspects of plan development and office support, as needed, but will be focused on producing outreach materials. 

Duties: Typical tasks of the Media & Outreach Intern may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Aids in managing WAMPO’s website and social media accounts. Posts content.
  • Assists with marketing, communication, and public engagement efforts. Brainstorms outreach ideas and uses analytics to gauge the success of campaigns.
  • Develops infographics, charts/graphs, illustrations, and other visuals. Designs and updates document formatting.
  • Assists in meeting regulations associated with the Title VI Program, Environmental Justice Executive Order, and the WAMPO Public Participation Plan.
  • Compiles content/research and may write reports and/or informational pieces related to regional transportation news. Contributes to planning activities.
  • Communicates with the public and supports the MPO’s commitment to customer service excellence, continuous improvement, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Assists with office management.
  • Performs related duties and other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, Constant Contact, and other relevant programs.
  • Design skills. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications desired.
  • Social media marketing and online engagement skills.
  • Attention to detail and capacity for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Report writing and data analyzing skills. Ability to effectively communicate and present results in oral, written, and graphic forms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, planning partners, elected officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of WAMPO.                                                                                              

Education and Experience Required: An associate or bachelor’s degree or currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree preferred. This position would be ideal for recent graduates or students in communications, design, public administration, planning, or similar programs.
