SUD (Substance Use Disorder) Counselor

Jefferson House is a 12 bed, residential treatment facility for men seeking to reclaim their lives from addiction. This Substance Use Disorder Counselor helps develop a support system for Jefferson House (J House) residents by evaluating their substance use problems and working with J House staff to coordinate residents’ treatment and activities of daily living.  They work in conjunction with the J House Director, Coordinator and House Managers to counsel residents, conduct therapeutic activities and maintain case records. This role will also provide house manager duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate, exemplify and support the Capuchin Charism and Provincial Mission, Vision and Values throughout all professional responsibilities and activities.
  • Coordinate resident’s treatment and activities of daily living
  • Report on resident’s behavior and activities to supervisory staff
  • Check on residents periodically and be available to them to assist with their needs
  • Provide direct counseling services, individual therapy, and therapeutic activities
  • Develop and facilitate a weekly recovery group
  • Participate in case conferences and staff meetings and also as second facilitator for didactic groups
  • Complete and maintain appropriate and timely case records including, but not limited to, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge summaries
  • Conduct all aspects of House Manager duties during assigned shifts
  • Check all areas of the house to ensure facility is maintained and in sanitary conditions
  • Participate in interviews of prospective residents, case conferences, and staff meetings
  • Perform follow-up work on discharged residents, including after care counseling
  • Comply with Province and ministry policies, procedures, guidelines and standards

 

 

Qualifications:  Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field, State of Michigan certification as a SUD Counselor, 2 years of experience in field, Chauffer’s license or ability to obtains, familiar with SUD treatment programs, able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, able to travel locally, effective communication, problem solving, interpersonal, organizational and Microsoft Office skills
