ACT/SAT Tutor
Intro
Do you like learning and helping others? Then we're looking for you! We are a small tutoring company that specializes in standardized test prep, primarily ACT and SAT prep. We also cover graduate level exams (GRE, MCAT, GMAT) and academic subjects for middle school all the way through college. Our team consists of intelligent, caring, and thoughtful people who are interested in helping others achieve their academic goals.
About the position
- Hours are typically whenever students aren’t in school, so that means afternoons/evenings and weekends during the school year. Summers are much more flexible, as students often request mornings and early afternoons, though there are still some who look for evenings or weekends.
- You will have control over your schedule, but you’ll also have to commit to having a reasonable number of hours available when students are available.
- It is pretty easy to scale your schedule up to 15-20 hours (or more!) if you are engaging and help your students understand the material better. We aim to meet students where they are, whether they’re high achievers aiming for the top scores or lower scorers who have had a bad experience somewhere in their academic career. Because we have a diverse set of students, we are also looking for a diverse set of tutors.
- We expect you to be familiar with the basics of Google Sheets, Docs, Calendar, and Gmail. You won’t be required to know formulas, but you will have to navigate around spreadsheets.
- You’ll have regular meetings, both one on one and with the team, to build your skills as a tutor.
- Full training included (and paid for) on our system of tutoring the ACT and SAT. You do not have to have prior experience tutoring to work for us.
- We are looking for candidates who can commit to working with us through the end of the 2026 school year (June), although longer is even better!
About Us
- We aim to help students as efficiently as possible. We use our best knowledge of how to approach questions and the sections overall, but we are also open to new approaches as we find them.
- We build relationships with our clients in order to help them succeed, from keeping track of their big life events to understanding their individual quirks on test day and with practice problems.
- We’ve built our own curriculum from the ground up. We try to make it as easy as possible for you to focus on your students, how to connect with them, and how they learn, rather than figuring out how to solve each question from scratch.
- We are a small company only based in San Diego. We grow primarily through word of mouth. We have had a great time coming back in person, but still offer virtual sessions for families who request it. We have found students really enjoy their in-person sessions (if we can convince them to try one)!
- You will be able to impact our growth, and you will be heard. We have a proven system, a solid client base, and an effective system of materials, training, and communication.
If the position and requirements sound like a fit for you, please submit your application! We look forward to hearing from you.
