ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This is an outline of the general duties of the position of Director of Social Services at The Salvation Army Canton Citadel Corps, Canton, OH.  It is in no way all inclusive but does indicate the area of responsibility. 

  • Provide supervision for Social Services Staff.
  • Schedule client appointments, interview clients, maintain client files, updating information with each visit and assisting with services such as emergency food, utilities, rent/mortgage, prescriptions and other basic human needs.
  • Answer phones as part of the Team and direct calls to the appropriate person.
  • Maintain confidentiality both with clients and other agencies/service providers.
  • Communicate/coordinate with receptionist the scheduling of client appointments, and assign casework to other Social Services Staff.
  • Maintain records for Dominion Energy Share, EFSP, United Way Emergency Assistance and any other special funds.
  • Work with Corps Officers and Resource Development Manager on grant reporting and providing statistical data for Grant Writing.
  • Manage, and/or assign management to other Social Services Staff, The Salvation Army booth during the Feeding Program and collect data/statistics from other service provider booths.
  • Enter client data into the appropriate databases as soon as possible after service is provided.  Maintain guidelines for each database.
  • Organize/Plan and Oversee special projects such as Christmas Assistance, Back to School Assistance, etc. and lead in the collection of data on these projects.
  • Make connections/contacts with other community agencies to facilitate referrals and connections for further assistance for clients.
  • Make appropriate referrals for clients to various agencies/organizations and coordinate service with said agencies/organizations.
  • Attend meetings/seminars/workshops as requested to represent The Salvation Army Canton Citadel and network with other service providers as requested by the Corps Officers.
  • Provide case management for occasional special cases as requested by Corps Officers.
  • Assist Corps Officers in supervision of volunteers, interns and third party workers.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Other tasks assigned by the Corps Officer.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent related experience.
  • Licensed Social Worker
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to schedule and perform designated responsibilities independently – self-motivate
  • Ability to work well with others and be a team player.
  • Possess a positive, teachable, “can do” attitude.
  • Must be able to represent The Salvation Army’s Mission in all spheres of influence.
  • Ability to perform all duties in compliance with The Salvation Army’s policies and regulations.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License. Must clear Salvation Army Driving and Background Check.
