Position Level: Part-Time Permanent (in-person, 25 – 30 hours/week plus occasional evening events)

About 

Situated on the historic Sarasota Bayfront, Art Center Sarasota is the center of Sarasota’s visual arts community. Art Center Sarasota is a member-supported nonprofit 501(c3) organization that engages the entire artistic community by providing educational programs and exhibitions to local and regional artists and those who simply enjoy the visual arts. The Center’s exhibitions program shows contemporary works in its three curated galleries, designed to inspire and challenge the viewer. The large atrium gallery is dedicated to showcasing the Sarasota and region’s talented artists in juried competitions and is often used as a collaborative project space.

About the Position 

The Program Assistant – Exhibitions Media supports the Exhibitions Director in the promotion of exhibitions and related events, and performs other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, write captions, edit and publish social media posts for the exhibitions department
  • Design print and digital media (flyers, brochures, postcards) 
  • Video Editing: record events with Mevo cameras and cut & edit video files to post online
  • Create and edit exhibition marketing emails through Constant Contact
  • Event Support: Assist in the production of Opening Receptions and Special Events
  • Digital Marketing: post open calls and promotional materials
  • Support artists with submitting artwork for juried shows 
  • Maintain exhibition related website updates through Squarespace
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends required

Requirements 

  • Proficient in Google Suite 
  • Social Media Savvy
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite; InDesign, Premiere Pro, Illustrator & Photoshop
  • Basic video editing experience
  • Knowledge of and interest in contemporary art 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate's Degree with 2 years of professional work experience
  • Adept at learning new skills and not afraid to ask questions 
  • Proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in data entry 
  • Art and/or Art History background 
  • Interested in a career in the Arts (curatorial, administration, exhibitions) 

Communication Skills 

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to: read, analyze, and interpret documents; respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries; communicate effectively at multiple levels within the organization; manage communications professionally and with respect; know when to escalate issues to upper management; communicate to various contractors and suppliers in a simple and timely manner. 

Physical Demands | Work Environment 

The physical demands described here are representative of those to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Accommodations may be made to support individuals differently abled to perform the essential functions. In addition to the usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, this position will require frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery and ability to lift up to 50lbs. Experience with power tools, general painting and maintenance preferred. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
