Reporting to the Mill Manager, the process engineers will be responsible for process optimization / improvement, product development, quality, and process troubleshooting.
Essential Job Responsibilities
§ Lead process optimization opportunities based on input from management, operators, customers, consumers, industry leaders, and maintenance personnel.
§ Coordinate all aspects of trials related to process optimization / improvement to include; defining associated costs/savings; process changes required; performing risk/benefit analysis; documenting and communicating results, conclusions, and recommendations to the business.
§ Identify, test and trial, and implement potential new fiber sources.
§ Manage chemical supplier activities and set priorities said activities.
§ Keep current with industry process advancements.
§ Collect, trend and present data to determine and correct problems.
§ Initiate specification and procedural changes to improve quality and minimize production raw material costs.
§ Track and analyze quality data, costs, and raw material usage to identify problems before there is negative impact on the business.
§ Update production specs to minimize costs while maintaining all quality parameters.
§ Work closely with crews and Quality Department to make sure products produced meet all quality specifications.
§ Help develop, implement, and maintain Policies and Procedures that align with SQF requirements to maintain SQF certification. These include GMP, Food Defense, HACCP, and Food Safety.
§ Lead process troubleshooting efforts which include chemical and physical analysis, data collection and analysis, fault analysis, and recommendation of corrective action.
Qualifications
§ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pulp & Paper Engineering, or equivalent experience required.
§ Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required.
§ Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
§ Must have a high level of understanding of papermaking test methods and data interpretation.
§ Must be highly proficient with analysis of large amounts of data.
