High School Art Teacher

SALARY RANGE: Salary Matrix Schedule

START DATE: August 1, 2025

CALENDAR: 181 days

FTE:  1.0

 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the  Building Principal, the art teacher will be responsible for developing each student's interest and ability for creative expression in visual terms.  This position will be teaching Visual Art to 9th - 12th grade students. The candidate should possess skills in multiple genres of art.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Certification

  • Colorado certified teacher with Visual Arts (K-12) endorsement
  • Out of state applicants will be considered if they can qualify for a Colorado license
  • Willing to become CTE certified

  Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Secondary Education with an art emphasis or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Master’s Degree in related area preferred.

Experience

  • Successful prior teaching experience with grades 7-12 is beneficial

  Language

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaches art as well as other appropriate learning activities to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Telluride School District School Board preparing materials as needed. 

  • Plan and deliver the art curriculum
  • Organize, inventory and order art supplies and instructional aids and equipment
  • Maintain complete and accurate student academic and disciplinary records.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinate with other staff members,  to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Supervise students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
  • Prepare students for success in an increasingly complex world through developing solid academic foundations, critical thinking skills, collaborative capacity, and agency.
  • Cultivate a sense of belonging through diversity, equity, and inclusion to create a community that is respectful, empathetic, and joyful.
  • Use the District’s internet and E-mail system as specified in Policy.
  • Assist with planning and monitoring classroom/department budget.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

  • Knowledgeable of common core state standards; be able to demonstrate examples of collaboration, progress monitoring and utilizing RtI/MtSS.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of secondary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, including PowerSchool and Schoology, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Effective understanding of the IEP writing process including standards alignment of the IEP
  • Practice safe work habits,  utilize appropriate safety equipment and provide safety instruction for students

Environmental & Physical Conditions:
Standard School environment including outdoors working closely with students,  staff, and parents. 
General good physical condition necessary to perform the duties of the job.
May be exposed to chemicals in relation to cleaning and art/ photography materials
