STEM Coordinator for Driving Possibilities

Position: YCS STEM Coordinator
Reports to: Curriculum Director
Contract: 12-month position - grant funded (4 Years)
Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (evening and weekend hours may be necessary)
Salary Range: $80,150
Qualifications/Experiences:
- Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics
- Ability to effectively facilitate STEM meetings
- Must have K-12 experience and K-12 STEM instruction knowledge
- Must understand, know, and be visible in our community
- Must demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion
Responsibilities include:
Project Coordination:
- Facilitate and coordinate our Toyota Driving Possibilities work throughout the district in collaboration with District expectations.
- Coordinate with science and math departments to make Driving Possibilities Driver Diagrams a reality.
- Evaluate and report the impact of professional development and student learning related to STEM / STEAM efforts to school boards, Toyota, STEM Institute at EMU, WISD, and other partners.
- Coordinators will work together across districts and the ISD to advance regional STEM efforts.
- Evaluate, design, and monitor policies to promote gender equality in STEM.
- Provide support and technical assistance to involved partners of the Driving Possibilities initiative.
- Work with administration, guidance, and teaching staff to enhance parent involvement.
- Foster partnerships to leverage organizations and seek out grants for long-term sustainability.
Support teachers with their STEM growth and development:
- Coordinate cross-departmentally on STEM initiatives school-wide as part of the school’s curriculum and the use of STEM in the classrooms.

Serve as a STEM instructional coach to teachers by providing expert advice on improving and enhancing individual lessons and units based on ongoing analysis. This will include, but is not limited to:
- Support the development of curriculum and advise pacing on the scope and sequence based on essential content knowledge as outlined in the state and national standards related to STEM.
- Make recommendations on best practices for supporting curricular integration across all content areas.
- Collaborate with master teachers and principals in determining appropriate resources and support for teachers.
- Assist the School Principal, Classroom Teachers, and other school peer groups to design STEM Placed-Based/PBL’s (Project Based Learning) opportunities both on-site and off-site in alignment with the curriculum and goals of the Driving Possibilities initiative.
- Develop, organize, coordinate, and provide training for administrators and staff related to STEM best practices, NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards), and Common Core Integration strategies and the assimilation into the classroom.
- Support all educational staff to ensure that the identified STEM curriculum is being utilized to its fullest potential.
- Provide technological and project-based resources to support classroom teachers and encourage exciting, robust, multi-sensory, applied, and experiential learning.
- Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve STEM achievement for students in grades K-12.
- Support teachers by providing feedback on lessons and assessments that align with the Common Core State Standards.
- Lead teacher study groups to increase content and pedagogical knowledge of STEM instruction.
Student STEM Engagement, Exploration, and Growth:
- Create educational STEM opportunities for students through community outreach and business partnerships in alignment with the STEM Institute at Eastern Michigan University and Driving Possibilities initiative.
- Participate in available STEM training and experience STEM topics.
- Collaborate with Transition and Career Coordinators and align curriculum to ensure integration of academic and technical education with 21st-century skills.
- Collaborate with the Pathways Development Team in the writing of STEM grants.
- Manage awarded grant funds and outcomes and oversee the compliance and reporting of grants. Establish implementation goals and timelines for grants
- Assist in the creation of communication and marketing efforts for STEM projects and activities.
- Remove any barriers that get in the way of students striving in STEM.
- Collaborate with the STEM instructional teams to develop and implement plans designed to assist struggling students.?
STEM Career Pathways:
- Adhere to district and school rules and procedures.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance, as it is an essential function of the position.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
