Stained Glass Technician

Our company makes and repairs stained glass windows. It takes different abilities: fine detail work as well as some strenuous physical efforts. For fine detail you might have made models with an x-acto knife or done detailed pencil drawings. For physical work you might have done gardening or sports. We remove the windows from houses or other buildings, take them apart and put them back together with new lead came, cement them, prepare the wood sashes and then re-install them back into the frame where they came from. The work involves cutting and grinding glass, cutting and handling lead came and soldering with lead/tin solder. Removing and installing windows can involve some lifting and standing on ladders. Basic physical fitness for carrying tools, reaching overhead and maneuvering unwieldy objects is required. Cutting glass and handling sharp objects is part of the job and workers are likely to experience small cuts on their hands. A basic knowledge of the stained glass process is helpful, either self-taught or through a class on the copper-foil method. Knowledge and understanding of the health risks and safety procedures around the construction of stained glass is helpful.

The candidate must have reliable transportation to our studio. Public transportation is not available.
