RN-New Grad - Critical Care Internship

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Transition position provides guided orientation to help integrate and apply medical knowledge and sharpen technical skills for newly graduated Registered Nurses. Accountable for utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, age-appropriate, direct and indirect patient care, while practicing within the scope of practice of the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Critical Care Internship is a preparation course to bring new graduate registered nurses to the educational/practical level to care for Critical Care patients. The Critical Care Unit supports patients experiencing a variety of complex conditions. This course prepares them to provide care through advanced knowledge and experience in a setting that provides increased monitoring, assessments and interventions.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Current unencumbered Oregon RN license required.
Healthcare Provider Level BLS required.
GSR Critical Care Internship:
Must have less than one (1) year of acute care experience to participate in the New Grad program.
ACLS required within six (6) months of hire.
Basic EKG experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Social Perceptiveness: Ability to work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics. Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and/or communicating with patients and caregivers. Possess personal sensitivity to the needs and experiences of others and a non-judgmental attitude towards persons of differing standards, values, lifestyles, and ages.
Adaptability/Flexibility: Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to situations that may arise with high risk or diverse patient populations. Ability to adjust actions in relation to others and adapt to offer best possible care to patients.
Time Management: Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work to complete within required time frames and to follow-up on pending issues. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in dynamic fast-paced environments and under pressure.
Communication: Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues.
