            Base Hourly:    $37.75/hr.--$57.43/hr.                             Base Annual:  $78,520.00--$119,454.40

            

            Employee may be placed at a Grade 23 if licensed as a Professional Engineer.

      Grade 23     Non-Exempt     Base Hourly:  $41.66/hr.--$63.40/hr.      Base Annual:  $86,652.80--$131,872.00

JOB SUMMARY:  This position participates in the provision of engineering services in support of the operations of the city’s electrical system.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:  Programs relays, RTAC, and SCADA equipment.  Performs fault calculations, circuit analysis, and arc flash analysis.  Communicates and coordinates with large customers to identify needs and develop solutions.  Communicates and coordinates activities with TVA staff.  Reads and interprets manuals, drawings, maps, and reports.  Researches and provides feedback related to power quality complaints.  Reviews construction specifications and blueprints for bids.  Assists in outage management and restoration efforts during large outages.  Performs related duties.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 18 year or older. High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience.                     Valid Driver’s license.  BS degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Sufficient experience usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.  Certification as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:  Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to electric utilities.  Knowledge of electric utility system design, construction, operations, and maintenance. Knowledge of electrical engineering principles.  Knowledge of the National Electric Code and the National Electric Safety Code.  Knowledge of SCADA networking and programming principles. Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.  Skill in strategic planning, organization, and decision making.  Skill in oral and written communication.

 

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:  The work consists of varied engineering and technical duties. Strict regulations and the need for accuracy contributes to the complexity of the position.  The purpose of this position is to provide engineering support for the operations of the city’s electric utility system. Successful performance ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of utility operations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, climbs ladders, utilizes tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must distinguish between shades of color.  The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.  Physical strength, ability, and mobility to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation.  Must be willing to work overtime, non-standard work hours, holidays, shifts, and weekends as necessary.  Must be willing to be on-call.
