POSITION SUMMARY: The hazard of flooding and the potential risks and damage that result from flooding is most prevalent in the civil engineering industry; a prevalence that has grown in recent years and will continue to grow with the expanding regulatory requirements within the industry to account for climate change.
Pare Corporation has a group of Hydrological and Hydraulic (H&H) engineers that is dedicated to identifying and analyzing riverine-related flood risk and developing solutions to address that flood risk for a variety of applications within the civil engineering industry. Specific applications include watershed-wide flood damage reduction/adaptation planning studies, river and floodplain restorations, bridge and culvert assessments and replacements, as well as a variety of dam applications including assessments, repairs/rehabilitations, and removal.
The H&H Group, which serves under our Geotechnical Division, is seeking passionate candidates to join the group as an Engineer I or II. These positions will offer the opportunity for a variety of field and office assignments with excellent opportunities for career growth and development.
DUTIES AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform field tasks, including field reconnaissance and data collection, visual inspections of dams, and inspection of hydraulic structures.
• Obtain, process, and utilize GIS data to support hydrologic model development.
• Process field data and terrain information to develop hydraulic models.
• Build various hydrologic and hydraulic models; interpret model data.
• Develop solutions geared to address identified flooding risks.
• Prepare field and engineering reports, animations, graphics, and other technical documents.
• Represent the firm in the community and through professional organizations and events.
• Other related activities as needed and assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES:
• BS in Civil Engineering or related field, with a focus on hydrology and/or hydraulic studies. Master’s degree with an emphasis in hydraulics, hydrology, or water resources preferred.
• Interest in working in the field of hydrology and hydraulics (H&H), particularly riverine flooding.
• 0 to 5 years engineering experience.
• Experience with engineering software preferred, not required; AutoCAD, HydroCAD, ArcPRO, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, GIS and GPS Systems, and Microsoft Office programs.
• Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic principles.
• Must be able to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to internal and external audiences.
• Attention to detail and the ability to think critically.
• Self-motivated with a professional attitude.
• Active participation in professional and community organizations preferred.
