Fort Reno Adolescent Center Assistant Director

The Gary E. Miller Canadian County Children’s Justice Center operates as a department of the Canadian County government, providing services and programs for children and families.   

  

Fort Reno Adolescent Center (FRAC)   

Located within Gary E. Miller Canadian County Children’s Justice Center, Fort Reno Adolescent Center is a 12-bed residential substance abuse treatment program for adolescents who are between 13 and 17 years of age. This program is available to any youth in Canadian County who complete a drug and alcohol assessment and meet requirements for placement for the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s 3.5 level of care.  

 The goal of Fort Reno Adolescent Center is to foster and strengthen support for each resident through weekly, in-person family visitation, private passes outside of facility with family or caregivers to spend quality time, weekly outing opportunities to learn healthy activities along with fieldtrips to local events and activities to allow all residents to stretch their legs and be a kid. Our open floor, 12 room program provides a supportive community style living space where residents are able to interact with each other throughout the day allowing your child and their peers to work through our program together, providing insight into each other’s daily struggles and successes with an emphasis on healthy boundary setting and creating a healthy and safe living environment.

 

Description of essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide daily on-site supervision of group home clients and direct care staff. Provide supervision of residents as needed.
  • Assist with employing, evaluating, promoting group home supervisory, direct care and clerical staff according to established personnel policies.
  • Complete and maintain Medication Administration Training certification to serve as backup for certified staff.
  • Develop and maintain the monthly staffing schedule which includes all required staff trainings/meeting by designated deadlines.
  • Assist with purchasing, maintenance and other services necessary for the successful operation of the group home.
  • Maintain an open, service-focused and collaborative relationship with referral sources, funding sources, Center staff and other community stakeholders.
  • Ensure that admission/discharge process is followed and documentation completed and filed for each new resident at admission/discharge.
  • Assist with implementing, monitoring, evaluating the educational, recreational activities, and weekly field trips for the group home to ensure appropriate staffing levels are met.                   
  • Provide on call coverage as assigned. 
  • Implement ongoing staff development, coaching, and training to meet the needs of the group home for compliance with regulatory agencies. 
  • Monitor employee files to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. 
  • Monitor medications belonging to each resident and ensure notification is being given to parents to obtain refills in a timely manner.
  • Assist and monitor the medical needs of each resident and ensure each need is met as identified by the group home physician or nurse.   
  • Responsible for ensuring accreditation certification requirements are adhered for DHS, CARF, and DMH.             
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications for position:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least nine-college credit hours in family focus, individual function an interaction, child development, sociology, social work, or a closely related subject, and 24 months children's services experience; OR
  • A master's degree in social work, psychology, guidance and counseling, sociology, child development, human relations, behavioral science or other closely related subject from an accredited college or university and 12 months children's services experience; OR
  • Certification as a qualified substance abuse professional
  • Must pass all background checks and possess a valid driver’s license. 

 

Supervisory relationships: Directly supervised by Group Home Director.  Assists with the supervision of all staff of the group home.

Skills and knowledge required: Must have knowledge of adolescent residential services, cultural and ethnic diversity, intervention and treatment strategies and community resources. 

Prior experience required: Behavioral health experience required.

Personal qualities: Be sensitive, competent and committed to working with a diverse staff and clientele.  Must be committed to professional development and the application of newly acquired knowledge to working with staff and residents and their families.

Amount of travel and other special conditions or requirements: Travel may be required to obtain job-relevant training. 

Work Schedule: Required 40-hour work week; Flexible, must be willing to work holidays, weekends, and on short notice.
