School Social Worker

School Social Worker

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School District Social Worker to join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of students within our educational community. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by students, and the ability to collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to support the overall well-being of students.
 
Responsibilities:

Individual and Group Counseling:

  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
  • Develop and implement intervention strategies to address issues such as bullying, peer conflicts, and family concerns.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Conduct assessments to identify the social and emotional needs of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to gather information and develop comprehensive assessments.
  • Participate in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, contributing social work expertise to the development of appropriate goals and interventions.
  • Attend and participate in CSE meetings to ensure the needs of students are addressed effectively.

Crisis Intervention:

  • Respond promptly to crisis situations, providing emotional support and implementing crisis intervention strategies when necessary.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and community resources to address urgent student needs.

Parent/Guardian Involvement:

  • Conduct home visits to gain a comprehensive understanding of students' home environments and family dynamics.
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians to develop strategies that support the student's success both at home and in the school environment.

Collaboration with School Staff and Outside Agencies:

  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • Actively makes connections and collaborates with outside agencies and other mental health providers.
  • Provide training and consultation to staff on social-emotional issues impacting students.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and interventions.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by the school district.

 
Professional Development:

  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with trends, teaching, methodologies, and advancements. This includes attending workshops, seminars, and professional meetings such as faculty and department/grade level meetings.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to share best practices and enhance the overall learning experience for students.

Other:

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, social-emotional issues, and family dynamics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
