Accountant Hiring Range: $38.23-$42.91 per hour

Under the direction of the County Finance Director and guidance from the County Engineer, the Accountant is responsible for overseeing and leading accounting functions and activities for the Highway Department.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Administers and monitors highway department financial and accounting operations.
- Coordinating AP/AR activities and monitors cash flow requirements and needs.
- Codes expenditures to various projects.
- Bills appropriate entities for services provided and performed.
- Audits and reconciles the input of highway payroll.
- Prepares journal entries and monthly closing procedures to balance cash and grant accounts.
- Prepares financial summaries, year end reports, etc.
- Provides management assistance and support in the budget process.
- Provides research regarding past expenditures.
- Monitors and tracks budget activity.
- Monitors funding sources for current and or future revenues.
- Coordinates and maintains inventory system for the highway department for purchases and withdrawals.
- Develops and prepares various grant/project reports.
- Works with County Finance team on annual audit.
Successful candidates will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree with major field of study in accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years of construction, highway or cost accounting experience OR 5 years of experience in any other accounting field.
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a standard background check
