Fifth Grade Teacher

FIFTH GRADE TEACHER

Doane Academy, an independent day school serving students from Pre-K through 12th grade in Burlington, NJ, is seeking a full-time Fifth Grade teacher for the 2025–26 school year. This is a unique opportunity to bring our school’s mission to life by crafting and delivering an inclusive, engaging curriculum that sparks curiosity and fosters a lifelong love of learning. Rooted in a whole-child educational philosophy and grounded in developmentally appropriate practices, the Fifth Grade teacher plays a key role in nurturing students’ academic growth alongside their social-emotional development and understanding of diverse perspectives. Core responsibilities include teaching reading, word study, social studies, and social-emotional learning.  In addition to core academic subjects, this position includes looping with Fourth Grade for instruction in math and writing. It also involves teaching a leadership course, offering students meaningful opportunities to build confidence, character, and essential interpersonal skills.



 

Qualifying Education and Experience

  • Experience with and/or training in elementary education; 2+ years in a lead teacher role is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; a concentration in elementary education is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to meeting the social-emotional needs of children
  • Experience with integrating technology into instruction 
  • Experience with programs such as Illustrative Math, Being a Reader, Writing Workshop, Wilson’s FUNdations/Just Words, Patterns of Power, Inquiry Journeys, and Responsive Classroom is a strong plus.

  • Willingness to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and with varied abilities

  • Well-developed, effective organization and communication skills
