Compensation: Competitive wage
Sign-on Bonus: $12,000 - $15,000 depending on experience.

Position Summary
The Pre-op/Post-op Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients before and after surgery, including assessing their health status, preparing them for surgery, monitoring them during surgery, managing pain, and ensuring a smooth transition back to stable condition following the procedure and educating patients about post-operative care at home.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Responsible for the patient’s admission to the facility.
· Ensures consent is properly signed, lab work is completed, patient history and physical are done.
· Obtains necessary lab specimens.
· Assists with pre-operative cleansing or bathing as required by physician for specified procedure.
· Performs patient assessment including vital signs, monitored both pre-op and post-op in accordance with policy and procedure.
· Initiates IV therapy as ordered.
· Administers any pre-op medications as ordered by physician.
· Performs hair removal on the patient if necessary.
· Maintains documentation in patient’s medical record as necessary.
· Performs any applicable patient charges.
· Attends continuing education programs and other meetings as directed by supervisor.
· Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records according to applicable policies and regulations.
· Performs bedside shift report when patient is transferred to surgery and when patient returns from surgery.
· Knowledgeable and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.
· Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies.
· Provides patient/family members with proper discharge instructions.
· Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills and Abilities Required
· Practices safety measures to prevent injuries to patient and personnel.
· Understands procedures to follow in case of an emergency.
· Ability to perform patient assessment including indications of patient conditions requiring interventions.
· Understands the meaning of each operative procedure.
· Knowledge of endoscopy procedures care of the patient both in pre-surgical and post-surgical status.
· Knowledge of physical organization of hospital, as well as administrative objectives, policies and procedures.
· Interested in continuing professional growth.
· Keeps abreast of new trends and developments in the field of nursing.
· A preference for working with the public and other staff as a team player.
· Possesses personal qualities which enable maintenance of good interpersonal relationships; examples of these are good judgment, understanding, loyalty, respect for the person as an individual, and empathy.
· Ability to de-escalate high pressure situations with both patients and visitors.
· Must be knowledgeable of state and federal confidentiality laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, and be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and instructions regarding the privacy and security of protected health information applicable to the position.
Minimum Job Requirements
· Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and possession of a unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Nebraska.
· Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
· Work is physically and emotionally demanding, involves lifting, positioning and bending as required.
· Positioning, transferring, transporting patients via wheelchair or stretcher.
· Must be able to move carefully around patient and equipment with ease and agility.
· Environment requires working in close proximity with others in a clean favorable area.
· Dexterity required to operate equipment and other tasks as required to meet patient care needs.
· Employee must be able to physically and mentally meet patient needs in an expedient and efficient manner.
· Working hours are flexible depending on surgery schedule and has a possibility of overtime hours.
· Job regularly involves the potential for exposure to hazardous material such as contaminated body fluids.
