Aquatics Certification Instructor

Position Summary
Under the direction of a City of St. George Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics, leads Lifeguard
Instructor (LGI) courses and Community CPR, AED, and First Aid training. This role focuses on preparing
participants to become certified Lifeguard Instructors and equipping community members with life-saving
CPR skills, ensuring all training adheres to American Red Cross standards.
Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following
tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions

1. 1. Conduct Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) courses to train and certify participants as American
Red Cross Lifeguard Instructors.
2. Teach Community CPR, AED, and First Aid certification courses for diverse groups, including
individuals, organizations, and businesses.
3. Guide participants through Red Cross training materials, ensuring a clear understanding of course
content and practical application.
4. Assess and evaluate participants’ performance, providing feedback and support to ensure mastery of
required skills.
5. Prepare and maintain training equipment, such as manikins, AED trainers, and course materials,
ensuring readiness for all classes.
6. Maintain accurate and timely records of course completions and certifications, adhering to American
Red Cross reporting requirements.
7. Stay updated on changes to American Red Cross training protocols and incorporate updates into
courses as needed.
8. Collaborate with the Aquatics Coordinator to schedule courses, ensuring efficient delivery and use of
resources.
Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing
to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds

of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Qualifications
Education & Experience:
● High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred).
● Minimum 2 years of experience teaching American Red Cross courses, including LGI and CPR.
Certifications (Required):
● American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT) certification.
● American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certification.
● Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of
hire and be maintained throughout employment.
● CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained
throughout employment.
● Maintain certifications as necessary to have the proper depth of knowledge and experience to
complete assigned tasks and responsibilities.
