Position Overview:
As a Registered Nurse at McKenzie Health, you will provide direct nursing care to the patients and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by the certified nursing assistants/nursing assistants in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines and established facility policies and procedures on the medical surgical and ER departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of the CNA, NA, and LPNs on their assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs the daily activities of the certified nursing assistants/nursing assistants in accordance with current federal, state and local regulations and guidelines and established facility policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are complied with by nursing personnel assigned.
  • Participate in the admission, discharge and transfers of patients as required.
  • Observes patients for changes in status, notifying the physician and patient’s family or representative and documents accordingly.
  • Observes physician orders to the patient’s EHR and carries out orders.
  • Prepares and administers medications and treatments as per physicians’ orders and observes the patient for adverse effects, utilizing facility policies and procedures.
  • Initiates, reviews and updates care plans as required
  • Provides direct care skills in accordance with current policies and procedures.
  • Performs rounds to ensure patient needs are being met and personnel are performing their assigned duties.
  • Collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team as needed to ensure patients’ needs are met.
  • Responds to emergency situations in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that there is an adequate stock of medications, supplies, equipment and notifies appropriate personnel of needs.
  • Promote teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication.
  • Participates in the survey process when inspection surveys arise and participates in hospital-wide committees as needed.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees.
  • As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency
  • Cross trains to both ER and Med-Surg floor.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all equipment used in treatment of patients
  • Performs other duties as assigned, within the Registered Nurse scope of practice.

 

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience on a medical/surgical floor and/or ER preferred but not required.
  • Previous EHR experience preferred
  • Current unrestricted license as a RN in North Dakota or compact license in home state.
  • Minimum of Associates Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or a graduate of an approved RN program.
  • Current BLS certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certification preferred, with willingness to obtain after hire.
