GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES 

Under limited supervision, this position inspects work completed on the water distribution system. Reports to the Utility Pipeline Inspector Supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Performs initial, follow-up and periodic inspections of water system construction projects and related installations to ensure continued compliance with Waterworks Distribution Standards and appropriate regulations. 

Coordinates pre-construction meetings to inspect and review project drawings, materials, and verify contractor licensure; verifies and revises field changes and contractor drawings to reflect as-built conditions and materials; reviews contractual obligations, extension agreement submittals, inspection procedures, and utility installations performed by contractors. 

Performs and logs necessary testing to include soil tests, pressure tests, flushing and disinfectant sampling. Maintains records and documentation on all inspections. Locates and assists Utility Locators with identifying, locating, and marking pipelines, service laterals, meters and other appurtenances owned and operated by the department. 

May serve as lead worker. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field and 3-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

Acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work. 

• Some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. 

• Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10-20 pounds).
