Senior Environmental Scientist and Tribal Liaison

The Central Valley Flood Protection Board (CVFPB) is the State regulatory agency responsible for ensuring that appropriate standards are met for the construction, maintenance, and protection of the flood control system that safeguards life, property, and wildlife habitat in California’s vast and diverse Central Valley.

🌟 We are currently seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) for a unique opportunity that blends environmental review with Tribal policy advising. This position includes a rare and meaningful role as the CVFPB’s Tribal Liaison, facilitating government-to-government consultation and helping ensure Tribal perspectives are considered in flood protection policy and land management decisions.

💼 Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the CVFPB’s Tribal Liaison, facilitating communication and implementing government-to-government consultations.

Attend Tribal Advisor Meetings related to land management and policy development.

Evaluate CVFPB actions to incorporate strategies and measures into flood management policies and regulations to address the needs of Tribes and Tribal communities.

Review encroachment permit applications to determine compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Act as a lead agency under CEQA on flood risk reduction projects, ensuring compliance with both federal and State environmental laws.

Collaborate with legal counsel to support project approvals and policy decisions that comply with applicable environmental laws and policies.

Provide formal presentations and written staff reports with recommendations to CVFPB management and Board Members in publicly noticed meetings.
