Mathematics Teacher
Wilson Preparatory Academy is seeking a Mathematics Teacher in Wilson, North Carolina.
Job Description: Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to all students in the class; Teaching according to educational needs, abilities, and achievement of the individual students and groups of students; Adopting and working toward the implementation of the school development plan of the school; Assigning work, correcting and marking work carried out by students; Assessing, recording, and reporting on the development, progress, attainment, and behavior of his students; Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports, and references relating to individual students or groups of students; Participating in arrangements within an agreed national framework for the appraisal of students' performance; Promoting general progress and well-being of individual students, groups of students, or the full class; Providing guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers, providing information on sources of more expert advice; Communicating, consulting, and cooperating with other members of the school staff, including those having posts of special responsibility and parents/guardians to ensure the best interest of the students; Reviewing and evaluating his own teaching and learning strategies, methodologies, and programs in line with Common Core Standards guidelines; Advising and cooperating with the Executive Director, Associate Director, Principals, Board of Directors, and other teachers in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programs, methods of teaching and assessment, and pastoral care programs; Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of subjects; Participating in reciprocal peer review and observation of class teaching practices by the Principal (subject/level) concerned through effective dialogue; Participating in In-Service education and training courses, as well as in continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities, and taking part in action research exercises; Maintaining good order and discipline amongst his students and safeguarding their health and safety at all times; Participating in staff, group, and other meetings related to the school curriculum or pastoral care arrangements, for the betterment of the organization and administration of the school; Contributing to the professional development of new teachers and student teachers according to arrangements agreed upon with the Executive Director; Providing necessary information and advice to designated personnel in the school and providing all necessary information regarding requisitions and arrangements in connection with the teaching of subjects assigned; Ensuring safe custody and optimum use of equipment normally used in lessons and seeing to its regular servicing and maintenance; Participating in school assemblies; Registering and monitoring student attendance; Sharing in any possible and reasonable way in the effective management, organization, order, and discipline of the school; Nurturing a culture where teachers view themselves essentially as facilitators of learning and reflective practitioners; Participating in and contributing to MAPS and IEP conferences and reviews of officially statement students, collaborating with parents, Inclusion Coordinators, and other professionals and stakeholders working with the student; Developing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEP) of students, together with Learning Support Assistants (LSA), with individual educational needs and participating in IEP meetings; Ensuring that schemes and forecasts of work carried out in class are handed to the LSA in good time so that the necessary adaptations and resources are made for use with students with individual educational needs in class; Teaching students of different levels of achievement; and Encouraging participation in PLCs and other projects in accordance with targets set by the W.P Administration.
Minimum Requirements: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Education, Mathematics Education, or a related field of study and three (3) years of experience as a Mathematics Teacher or a related teaching position. Position requires three (3) years of experience teaching mathematics in a classroom setting at the middle school or high school level. Position requires a North Carolina Professional Educator’s license in Mathematics for grades 6 to 9 and 9 to 12, or all the qualifications to obtain each.
