GenLabs is the sister company of GenCanna, which is itself a single-source, full-service provider for pure, premium hemp-derived CBD and other best-in-class cannabinoids. 

We are seeking a Product Formulation Scientist ("PFS") to lead the development, formulation and commercialization of gummy products with a variety of active ingredients and required label claims. This position is responsible for hands-on work in the lab and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful creation and production of gummies that meet customer specifications and industry standards. 

The PFS will create relevant documents including process SOPs, manufacturing records, and sanitation records. He/she will lead the training of production technicians and maintain the ingredient library, and always adhere to good documentation and manufacturing practices.   

POSITION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Using expert knowledge of gummy formulating and equipment, lead the development of gummy products that meet customer requirements
• Develop gummies with various textures, flavors, and active contents from the bench top stage through commercialization – includes replicating existing formulas and development of formulas from scratch
• Ensure formulations comply with Good Manufacturing Principles (“cGMP”), FDA, and state-specific cannabis regulations
• Test and evaluate gummy samples for texture, flavor and shelf-life targets
• Maintain good lab practices, including records of recipes and formulations, manufacturing processes and product specifications (raw materials, prototypes), write Standard Operating Procedures, and process instructions for gummy manufacturing processes
• Collaborate with supply chain to source and evaluate ingredients that ensure functionality, taste, stability, and margin enhancement
• Lead training efforts and monitor production technicians
• Provide technical support for gummy manufacturing as needed
• Support the Formulations Department with other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Confectionery Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience acquired through training or work history.
• Minimum of five years’ experience formulating gummies, and at least one year of experience in a facility operating under current cGMP standards
• Formulation knowledge and experience developing pectin-based gummy supplements with actives, i.e. cannabinoids, vitamins, and botanical extracts
• Demonstrated success in commercializing gummies from bench top to production scale
• Possess a thorough understanding of ingredient functionality and formulation strategies to solve product challenges
• Capable of developing relationships and collaborating with ingredient vendors to keep up to date on ingredient technologies for gummy formulation
• Familiarity with dietary supplement label compliance and ingredient claims
• Able to adapt in a rapidly moving environment, prioritizing and managing multiple projects
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
