Facility Maintenance and Event Production Manager
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The City of Bloomington is seeking an individual to provide facility maintenance and event production management under the
direction of the Center for the Arts Manager for Bloomington Center for the Arts (BCA). Primary objectives include: all facility
maintenance functions, planning, scheduling, and improvements, overall management of facility production schedules and
planning, and providing leadership and supervision for event‐specific theatrical staffing.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Plan and direct a preventative maintenance program for the facility, designed to avoid costly equipment breakdowns
and loss of operations.
Investigate and repair/replace all breakdowns of BCA equipment, machinery, or supplies.
Review all maintenance procedures regularly and implement new practices to maintain the desired level of quality at
the most favorable cost.
Prepare and submit supply and repair budget for review and approval by the Center for the Arts Manager.
Recommend outside contractors when needed, prepare RFPs, and manage contractual work to assure the required
quality of service is met.
Provide leadership in theatrical production, which may include operations, technical, and stage management.
Interviews, hires, trains, directs, and supervises BCA Theater Technician staff. Contracts additional event‐specific
technical theater staffing when relevant.
Works in conjunction with BCA Resident Arts Organization production teams for shared use of theater and event
spaces, including development of facility procedures, policies, equipment needs, schedules, and room requirements.
Develop usage policies, training, and operation of theater technical equipment, including audio, lighting, projection,
rigging/fly systems, personnel lifts, and other event‐specific equipment.
Recommend staffing levels needed to correspond with the intensity of scheduled event usage periods.
Oversee and manage all BCA equipment assets.
Review patron and user feedback, in the absence of Center for the Arts Manager or Assistant Manager, to determine
facts and resolve issues in accordance with Departmental policy in a timely manner.
Available to respond to after‐hours emergency calls from BCA staff.
Keep BCA Manager and BCA Assistant Manager informed of matters they need to know so they can effectively
perform their responsibilities.
Recommend policies, procedures and other controls which would improve the operation of BCA.
Maintain a close working relationship with the BCA Manager and BCA Assistant Manager for event production
schedules and operations.
Performs other duties as assigned to achieve the City's cultural arts, historical, parks & recreation service objectives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of the efficient maintenance and operation of a performing arts
facility and/or theater.
Knowledge of and experience in Technical Theater, including audio, lighting, projection, rigging/fly systems,
personnel lifts, and live event production roles.
Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills.

Provide setup and take down of event and performance furniture (tables, chairs, music stands, orchestral sound
shells, etc.) for meetings, presentations, events, and performances.
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and theatrical equipment and systems.
Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to safe use of theatrical and event
spaces.
Mechanical aptitude.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Position may include bending, climbing, reaching, overhead pushing and pulling, elevation,
and exposure to paint and chemical solvents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED
Three (3) or more years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and working on mechanical equipment as it pertains to
arts facility operation. Examples include:
Theatrical performance equipment – rigging/fly systems, orchestral shells, stage floors, personnel lifts, audio,
lighting, projection, and other event‐specific equipment.
HVAC systems, furnaces, water heaters, pumps, and exhaust fans.
Plumbing equipment.
Three (3) or more years supervisory experience including recruiting, interviewing, directing and supervising work of
subordinate staff.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience with power tools, performing simple carpentry work.
Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
Experience working directly and effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
and diverse life experiences.
Valid driver's license or ability to secure individual transportation as needed, including on short notice.
Ability to work a variety of hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced coursework from an accredited college, vocational or technical school, in a closely related field to
maintenance supervision and/or technical theater.
Additional years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and working on mechanical equipment as it pertains to arts
facility operation. Examples include:
Theatrical performance equipment – rigging/fly systems, orchestral shells, stage floors, personnel lifts, audio,
lighting, projection, and other event‐specific equipment.
HVAC systems, furnaces, water heaters, pumps, and exhaust fans.
Plumbing equipment.
Advanced knowledge of technical theater and production – Dante/networked audio, DSPs, lighting systems,
Crestron.
Certifications as they relate to technical theater and event production. Dante certifications, Avixa CTS certification,
or equivalent experience.
Additional years of supervisory experience including recruiting, interviewing, directing and supervising work of
subordinate staff.
Network and affiliate contacts within the Twin Cities and surrounding areas for performance arts, visual arts, and
arts and cultural groups.
Ability to speak a second language, in addition to English that has a recognized presence in the community. (Spanish,
Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Cambodian, etc.)
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS
Direct supervision of ten to thirty part‐time/temporary staff, volunteers, program contractors and other consultants as
needed.
