Employee will perform professional engineering work in a training capacity, providing a wide variety of engineering services.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and supervise all technical engineering aspects and processing of surface and underground mining applications.
  • Ensure facility designs and operations comply with state and federal surface mining guidelines and sound engineering practices.
  • Review plans and designs for construction of roads, dams, and sediment structures.
  • Evaluate engineering plans and applications for environmental impact of proposed mining operations.
  • Compose reports with recommendations, conclusions, and findings.
  • Conduct annual inspections of impoundments in accordance with the Dam Control Act.
  • Prepare various reports and correspondence; regularly update computer data files.
  • Conduct field inspections, including over rugged terrain and in inclement weather.
  • Attend meetings and hearings to observe or provide testimony on environmental impact findings.
  • Participate in state and national meetings and seminars to gain and exchange engineering knowledge.
  • Review engineering work performed by lower-level staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Training: Bachelor’s degree in any engineering curriculum.

AND

Satisfactory completion of the examination on the fundamentals of engineering (FE).

OR

Current certification in good standing as an Engineer Intern issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.


NOTE: At the appointing agency’s discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying training, examination or certification. The qualifying training, examination or certification must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
