Inside Sales Engineer

Tom Evans Environmental, Inc. is seeking an Inside Sale Engineer to join its Sales and Engineering Team. The Inside Sales Engineer is responsible to provide technical support and quotations with regard to the selection, price, design, and delivery impact that will meet or exceed customer expectations. The Inside Sales Engineer will function as a support function to the rest of sales team. This role will communicate and collaborate directly and indirectly with equipment suppliers, customers, contractors, end users, and engineers. This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

Roles/Duties

  • Review project specifications to determine technical requirements, including but not limited to: equipment selection, sizing, costing, research requests for duplicate equipment from serial number records, and develop current pricing.
  • Provide initial review of projects which are posted for bid and channel to the appropriate sales team member for their handling and/or provide assistance, when so required.
  • Provide design input regarding customer’s specifications to provide quality design improvement suggestions based on equipment that is supplied by Tom Evans Environmental and our manufacturers.
  • Communicate with our direct suppliers for pricing, delivery, and technical information.
  • Proactively follow-up on outstanding quotes and projects that are in design and provide reporting to management for accurate forecasting.
  • Assist with preparation, gathering, and distribution of marketing brochures and presentations.
  • Produce detailed and concise work instructions pertaining to customer requirements, production improvements, purchasing assistance, etc.
  • Maintain all project documentation in standardized binder formats and electronic project folders.
  • Provide proper documentation handover to Project Management pertaining to pricing, delivery schedule, preliminary design information, and exceptions quoted to customer specifications, detailed listing of customer specifications reviewed at proposal phase.
  • Crosstrain with Project Management for ability to handle occasional project management of orders and to provide fulfillment of urgent or rush orders. In addition, will provide back up support to provide the customer with continuous uninterrupted service during times of sickness or time-off.
  • Ability to review and utilize in-house inventory to provide customers with the fastest delivery possible.
  • Provide support to Project Management to provide assistance in producing documents that are needed for submittals and IOM’s.
  • Post-fulfillment project review to determine causes of margin erosion and improvements that can be made to reduce future margin erosion.
  • Support continuous improvement, identify inefficiencies, and eliminate errors in the order winning process.
  • Be a voice of the customer, advocating for the customer’s needs.
  • Maintain state of the art level of competency by attending training courses, seminars, workshops, tradeshows etc. as required.
  • Crosstrain with other departments to be able to provide coverage when others are out for sicknesses or vacation.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have (near to completing) a minimum of a four-year engineering, engineering technology, or business with experience in design, applications, or technical sales role. Additionally, candidate shall be a minimum a Florida Engineering Intern with the ability to obtain credentials as a Professional Engineer within (4) years (preferred).

  • Must have a strong familiarity of computer software including: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Power Point, Projects, Outlook, Teams etc.), AutoCAD (or other drafting tools), Adobe Acrobat Professional, and CRM systems.
  • Advanced understanding of pumps, construction, hydraulics, and application of rotating and process equipment.
  • Must have a high sense of urgency to meet or exceed customer expectations, and achieve daily commitments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, with attention to detail are a must.
  • A strong work ethic is very important including multitasking ability.
  • Must have strong organizational skills for both physical and electronic files.
  • Must have strong background with rotating equipment and process equipment including drivers, controls, and interface.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret mechanical and electrical construction drawings and specifications.
  • Qualified candidates must have authorization to work in the United States without support.
  • Ability to operate out of the Lakeland office. (Relocation for this position is not supported).
  • Ability to travel occasionally to meet customers and visit manufacturing facilities when needed.
